2024 GARDEN MAINTENANCE

AT THE SHALER NORTH HILLS LIBRARY:

The SHNL gardens will be divided into sections:

 Plant America Hillside Garden, Front Entrance, Kier Garden, Right Front Garden.  Book Drop Garden and Brick Planters/Side Beds and Herb Garden.

 Volunteers for each section will establish their own maintenance schedule.

    (Open to the public- reservations required- Limit 40 participants!)

  April 11 -- Growing Healthy Houseplants Workshop at SNH Library 1:30 PM. Cost: $8.00.

  May 4 -- Shaler Garden Club Plant Sale-Perennials, annuals, herbs, Mother’s Day Baskets,

    Auction Baskets, Tool Sharpening, and Bake Sale, Kiwanis Park from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

  May 15 -- New Member Tea, hosted by Tappy Donegan 125 Lex Lane, Allison Park, PA.15101.  

    Time: 1:00 PM

  June 2-8 -- National Garden Week.  Members will conduct classes in the library gardens.

  June 14 -- Fairy Garden Workshop at Shaler North Hills Library 6:30- 8:00 PM.

  June 17-23-- National Pollinator Week-information will be available from the Pollinator

    Advocacy Committee

 June 20 – Native Perennials for your Pollinator Friendly Garden at SNH Library 6:00 PM.

  July 14 -- Annual Shaler Garden Tour, Sunday 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Purchase tickets at SNH

    bringing a floral arrangement to dress up Vician's tables. (Members Only)

  July 23 -- “But I Thought I Would Never Need An Ambulance,” Speaker: Brian Schutzman,

    Shaler-Hampton EMS. -Meeting at SNH Library at 6:00 PM. Winners announced for the

    Great Gardens Contest at 6:30 PM followed by the Program at 7:00 PM. (Open to the

FIELD TRIPS - 2024
**Pre-registration is required for all field trips. Call Leslie at 412-486-1885 and leave a message.


August 1 -- Tour of the Historic Homewood Cemetery, 1599 So. Dallas Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Carpool leaves Glenshaw Presbyterian Church at 9:30 AM. Walking tour with Jennie Benford as the guide at 10:00 AM. (Rain date is August 8, 2024)

September 10 -- Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve Nature Walk 614 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. Roxanne Swan, Environmental Botanist & Horticulturalist will be the guide.Carpools leave at 10:30 AM from Glenshaw Presbyterian Church. Tour at 11:00 AM. Lunch following at your own expense at Brick and Barrel Cross Keys 599 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

Date TBA – Hartwood Mansion Tour 200 Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. This will be a Christmas tour and date to be announced once booking is available. Lunch at your own expense following the tour.
